reinhart & fair trade
Reinhart is strongly engaged in purchasing and selling fair trade cotton, mainly from Cameroon and Mali. Reinhart has already purchased several thousands of tons from these two countries and is actively supporting certification for the Ivory Coast. The company is expanding its development of fair trade activities in Uganda and in Asia, particularly in India. The team managing the fair trade cotton is also in charge of the organic cotton operation.
Fair trade is an organized social movement seeking greater equity in international trade through a market-based model built on dialogue, transparency and respect. Fair trade promotes the payment of a fair price as well as social and environmental standards in activities related to the production of a wide variety of goods. Fair trade contributes to the sustainable development of natural resources. Offering better trading conditions and securing the rights of marginalized producers and workers, the movement focuses on exports from developing countries.
Fair trade organizations, with the support of interested consumers, are actively engaged in supporting workers, raising the awareness for fair payment, and campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of international trade. Fair trade focuses on social, economic and environmental development issues and the development of new labor standards. |
