Israel is growing mainly ELS cotton (Pima and Acalpi). All the ELS cotton is 100% drip-irrigated, machine picked and roller ginned. Due to an elaborate attendance of the cotton during their growing period, the yields of around 1,850 kgs/acre and 1,700 kgs/acre for Acalpi and Pima, respectively, are among the highest in the world. Seed breeders are most active in Israel and this results in a constant improvement of the technical parameters. All bales are HVI tested and data is available upon request. Additionally, all bales are tested for stickiness.

The Pima variety is representing about 75% of the ELS cotton. Staple and strength have improved in the last years and the specifications are comparable to US Pima. The fiber has a staple length of around 1.7/16” and a strength of 39 – 41 gpt (HVI).The micronaire is between 3.8 and 4.1.

Acalpi is a cross-breed (hybrid) of Pima (gossypium barbadense) and Acala (gossypium hirsutum). Farmers are very interested to plant Acalpi, since the shorter growing period of 30 days allows them to grow another crop on the same field. Acalpi has a sizable discount compared to Pima and is therefore suitable to use for slightly coarser counts. Acalpi has a staple length of 1.3/8 – 1.7/16” and a strength of 34 – 36 gpt (HVI).The micronaire is between 3.5 and 4.0.
